Wi-Fi™ Products

Murata’s Wi-Fi™ and Bluetooth® wireless modules are IEEE  802.11 and BT SIG compliant devices. The module’s form factors are world class requiring minimal circuit board area on today’s high density mobile devices. Murata’s production capacity is unmatched in providing the world with a reliable supply of high-quality wireless modules.  The module product line is structured into two distinct categories, Murata Direct and Broad Market.  A table below provides a convenient summary of models.    

Murata Direct is the traditional product line targeted to tier 1 and tier 2 large volume customers.  This customer segment has a proven record of shipping massive volumes of product per year.  Murata Direct serves this segment with a premium service of applications support and at times intense customization of the product and platform. 

In contrast, the Broad Market Series is a new product line for Murata.  For the first time in our history, we are offering advanced wireless modules to the market in a low touch business model approach.  The Broad Market Series of modules is sold through distribution partners.  The module is more highly integrated with peripheral components in an effort to reduce the amount of module design decisions and support required for the customer. Documentation is publicly available from the web where customers are enabled to take the initiative and pull the information as demand necessitates.  Also, and a highly significant point, the Broad Market modules will typically be associated to a core development platform giving the customer a stable, reference anchor-point from which to proceed with product development.  We encourage customers to adopt the reference development platform for their product development.  The two product series are listed below.  Additional Broad Market products will be introduced throughout 2012.  

Broad Market Series - Purchased through distribution

The broad market series of modules integrate system critical components such as reference oscillators, power management,  RF front-ends, and customer friendly connector interfaces.  More integration means less design time and program risk, resulting in faster time to market.  These modules are intended for the general mid-tier market where annual production volumes are relatively small compared to the mass volume tier 1 devices of the world.  Broad market modules will typically include wireless certification further reducing risks and improving time to market.            

Murata Direct Series - Mass volume tier 1

The Murata Direct series are the smallest form factor modules targeted to mass volume devices.  Volume minimums apply, typically requiring 100,000 pieces minimum annually to qualify.  Murata Direct is supported and sold through a direct relationship with Murata.  The Murata Direct product portfolio is large with wireless modules based on the leading semiconductor providers such as Broadcom, Marvell, and Texas Instruments.  A few select modules are detailed below.  Murata Direct customers should inquire for additional information.
